Online first aid courses

Florida follows the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)) under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: no numeric first-aider-to-worker ratio, but where no infirmary, clinic, or hospital is in near proximity, the employer must ensure one or more persons are adequately trained to render first aid. OSHA reads 'near proximity' as a 3–4 minute response for higher-hazard workplaces and up to 15 minutes for low-hazard offices.

Florida Administrative Code 65C-22.004(2)(a)-(b), enforced by the Department of Children and Families, requires each child care facility to have at least one staff member with current first aid and infant/child CPR certificates present at all times children are in care, on field trips, and during transportation. Certificates are valid per the program, not to exceed 3 years, and CPR requires an on-site instructor-based skills assessment.

Florida's Good Samaritan Act, Fla. Stat. § 768.13, protects any person who gratuitously and in good faith renders emergency care, acting as a reasonably prudent person would in similar circumstances, with no duty to rescue. The Cardiac Arrest Survival Act, Fla. Stat. § 768.1325, extends immunity to AED users and to whoever acquired and made the AED available.

The Florida Board of Nursing makes continuing education a condition of licence renewal, requiring 24 contact hours per two years reported through CE Broker. Basic BLS/ACLS recertification cannot be applied, but ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification courses do count toward CE.

In Florida, assisted living facilities (ALF) are governed by Rule 59A-36 of the Florida Administrative Code, and under Rule 59A-36.010 a staff member holding a currently valid first-aid and CPR card must be in the ALF at all times residents are present. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets this obligation and is renewed periodically.

Under Florida's foster-home licensing rules (Fla. Admin. Code Chapter 65C-45), resource parents must complete CPR and first-aid certification covering infants, children, and adults from a recognized organization, kept current while the home is licensed. The requirement is administered by the Department of Children and Families and its contracted community-based care agencies.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Florida for personal, childcare licensing, and employer purposes, with 3-year certification validity. OSHA does not prohibit online training for the workplace requirement but recommends hands-on skills practice (OSHA 3317), and blended training with a practical skills assessment is accepted.
